  • indabamusic.com – good or bad?

I’ve been looking at ways to collaborate with other musicians that I would never run into on a day to day basis. I’ve also been wondering if a technology/web app already existed where I could go and “bid” my services to someone that may be looking for music for film or what have you. It seems that indabamusic.com is doing both of these things in their app. Take a look below at the introduction video:

Welcome to Indaba Music from Indaba Music on Vimeo.

Now, is this something that you would find useful? I know there are a few ways that I could use this. I’m not sure about the online multi-track integration, but some of these tools are wonderful. It also looks like it is currently overwrought with people I probably wouldn’t want to collaborate with or remix at all, but that’s to be expected with any type of community, right? So, what do you think? Would you use the tools provided by indabamusic?

    re-release of ride – nowhere

    Ride - Nowhere

    Ride - Nowhere

It looks like we will finally get a vinyl release of Ride‘s super great album “Nowhere” here in the States. Has it really been twenty years since this album was released? I often find myself going through old albums and listening to tracks that seem to bring on a huge rush of sentimental feelings and more oftener than not, the “mental” part overwhelms. It’s weird how often a trip down memory lane conjures up a mild form a depression. Although, with that said, I never get that feeling with this album. This album will pull you from your funk and put you straight. So, all of you out there that are ready to throw yourselves to the wolves, grab this album and may you be saved by riding the waves of guitar that will fill your headphones.

Listen to both “Dreams Burn Down” and “Vapour Trail” below in the video playlist. “Vapour Trail” will play immediately after “Dreams Burn Down”

    Open source ecology…

Every once in a while I will come across a project that I absolutely love and get excited about. This is one of those times. Take a look at the video below and then go to Openfarmtech.org and read about what these guys/gals are doing. Super amazing stuff.

    They say this about themselves:

Open Source Ecology is a movement dedicated to the collaborative development of tools for replicable, open source, modern off-grid “resilient communities.” By using permaculture and digital fabrication together to provide for basic needs and open source methodology to allow low cost replication of the entire operation, we hope to empower anyone who desires to move beyond the struggle for survival and “evolve to freedom.”

have a listen to these bad ass girls from oklahoma.

subatomic pieces over at the tapeop messageboard says this about them:

“Kelli, 10, and Peyton, 15, are legit punk kids. They have better taste in music than most adults. They seem to have a gift for arrangements and songwriting. Their musical skills are limited. But, they work incredibly hard everyday. They recorded everything themselves (with Kelli’s dad helping) on a Tascam digital DAW. They then brought that into the studio to track drums and mix.”

the standouts for me are rainbows, seeing the world, adelina, aging, when we’re apart. i hope they continue to make records.

    Deerhunter

    Deerhunter

    dear deerhunter,
i had a rush of overwhelming enthusiasm when i noticed that you would be playing in nashville on wednesday, november 10th, 2010. my wife and i made the plans we needed to make so that we could watch you fill our heads with ambient punk. three weeks away…two weeks away…one week away. tonight’s the night! babysitter will be here in a few hours, let me call on all of my friends to make sure plans are still on to meet at the exit/in.

me: “hey are we still on tonight?”
friends: “hell yes! what time are you heading to the club?”
me: “let me call the club and see when they will go on.”
    friends: “okay, let me know”

after placing the call, i was told that you (deerhunter) wouldn’t go on until at least 11 p.m. ELEVEN PM?! i immediately contacted all who were planning on coming to the club and told them the news and immediately everyone expressed their disinterest in showing up now that they knew what time you would be going on.

i’m not sure if this was the product of your booking agent, your wishes or the club’s policy on when shows start, but we were incredibly bummed that none of us would be able to come out because of a horrible booking time on a wednesday night.

it’s sad to see that a band of your caliber would not book all ages shows so that kids up to 17 years younger than myself could come an enjoy your wonderful music. it’s also sad to know that by booking this type of show, you lost $100 dollars in ticket sales and probably another $40-$60 in sales of merch/cd/vinyl and that’s only the people that were coming with me. i’m sure others were turned off by the time of the booking as well. especially people that might have a bit of expendable income to give to you.

in the future, please have your booking agent book a place like the mercy lounge and make it an all ages show that would put you on at 9-9:30. this way every kid would be able to make it and all of us ‘not so young anymore’ peeps can make it as well.

you’ve made my favorite album of the year and it’s a shame that i didn’t get to experience the live exchange of it this time around.

    best,
    tate
