    R. Stevie Moore

    R. Stevie Moore

Tonight, my wife Amy and I get the pleasure of seeing Deerhoof at the Mercy Lounge here in Nashville. I was incredibly excited about this to begin with, but this morning I actually looked at the other acts playing with them. What can I tell you, I’m actually even more excited for the show now that I know R. Stevie Moore is playing. For those of you who don’t already know, Moore has released over 400 albums, EPs and cassettes. He proclaims it as his “sound diary” and it spans the gamut of spoken word, noise, prog, country, power pop, punk…you name it. I’m pretty sure there are labels that actually haven’t been invented yet that one would use to describe him and his music. I can’t wait. See the homemade videos from Moore for his songs “Back In Time” and “Quits” below.

Patrick Krief – Zero Art Session – Recorded Live to 2-track on May 3rd, 2007

Patrick Krief - Zero Art Session

A few years ago I had the pleasure of sitting in my studio with my friend, Patrick Krief, and recording the 4 songs below. He was in town performing with his band, The Dears, and we were able to get some time before the show to knock these recordings out. We recorded live to 2-track using a single microphone and ate some brownies after the session. Patrick is a passionate musician and I think it really comes through in these performances.

I plan on putting more of these Zero Art Sessions up as I record them or dig up old stuff. Once the new studio is up, I plan on making this live session experiment a semi-permanent fixture here on my site. Enjoy the music.

Recently, Tara Jane ONeil created a bandcamp page and I wanted to make sure everyone knew about it. Most of the stuff represented there is her work which was used as film score and instrumental pieces of wonderful music. I’ve always followed what TJO has done throughout her career since she played bass in a wonderful band from Louisville called Rodan. If you have never checked out any of her work, you must browse her discography, pick an album and dive right in.

Below you can hear a limited tour cdr called “After A Dark Seven”. Please pony up a few bucks for this if you like it.

She is also a wonderful visual artist. Amy and I have a couple of her pieces, which we love. The little guy in the header of my site was actually painted by her. You can see a couple of her works below, but make sure you check out her gallery on her main page

    Brian Dettmer - Integrated-Electronics

I’m always on the lookout for art and artists that inspire me to create my own works. Luckily, once in a while I run across someone’s work that I’m just in awe of and it inspires me to get on with my own creative endeavors. Brian Dettmer is one of those people.

From Wikipedia: Brian Dettmer (born 1974) is an American contemporary artist. He is noted for his alteration of preexisting media—such as old books, maps, record albums, and cassette tapes—to create new, transformed works of visual fine art.

Brian’s creations are quite amazing. He carves books with the steady hand and eye of a surgeon. In my eyes, he’s one of the best visual artists of my generation and I hope he continues to push forward in life and his art. Thank you, Brian.

You can see a lot of Brian’s work at these sites:
